That awkward moment
when on Facebook your grandmother calls some random girl you told a goofy story about “a stupid insignificant manipulating slut.” The girl who knocked on my window last night, btw.
One of the most amazing statistics of the last decade: not a single War on...

I’m still coming up dry on more info about the glass ceiling.
But I’m not just coming up dry on any additional stuff written by POC authors to add to Riley’s post (which btw doesn’t come up in a google search unless you search for their website’s name specifically with the terms, another worrisome fact for folks who think finding this stuff is easy or even doable) about it being...
Florida's Drug Testing of Welfare Recipients did... →
anticapitalist:
Last year Florida became the first state to pass and fully implement a bill mandating suspicionless drug testing of all applicants for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). The law mandated that all applicants pay for the cost of the drug test themselves, and that they be reimbursed if their test came back negative. The law was in effect for a mere four months before...

Some girl just knocked on my dorm window and asked me to open it and let her come in so she could go spend the night with her boyfriend.
And the thing is, when I got up and stared through my blinds, she didn't explain the situation to me, she just said "Open the window."
Me: "Um... why?"
And only then was there a half-assed explanation.
Me: "Sorry, I don't feel comfortable with that. You're gonna have to find another window."
Them: "You're not gonna open your window?"
Me: "No." *close blinds*

Historian Trent Kelly has collected 146 rare vintage photographs of black male couples from the past 150 years.
Although the large majority of the pictures depict gay couples, the collection also includes images of families and friends but they all have one thing in common: they capture images of love.
Below is a snippet of why Kelly started the collection along with a few photos from his...

big fat feminist: People you will meet in discussions about sexism on the internet:
Mr “Welcome to the real world”. Sexism happens. Always has, always will. Might as well suck it up and deal with it. Try to change society? What are you, mad? I don’t like it either, sunshine, but just be good and don’t make a fuss.
Mr “Oh my god calm down it was a joke”.

I still think the “wombyn” thing is problematic and reducing women to baby-making capacity.
Holy shit I didn’t even see that. Super fucking cissexist too.

Pueblo FINALLY took down their Gypsy Warning. FINALLY. After a year of emailing and calling and explaining that we are an ethnic group and that their post was extremely racist, hurtful and misleading… they completely changed it. It now says SPRINGTIME SCAMS and no longer mentions Gypsy or Travellers. YES.
It’s a small victory, but I’ll take it.
And hopefully...

I guess we can put all the talk about Johnny Depp “honoring” Native people to rest now. Cause it’s been over a month since those first horrendous publicity pics of Depp-as-Tonto surfaced, and more information has been trickling out about Depp’s “inspiration” for his lovely costume, and I think we’ll see just how careful, respectful and honoring Mr. Depp was with his...

Why does no one think or ask as vehemently why white women can callously erase and ignore WOC to become gatekeepers to what is acceptable womenhood
AS HARD
As they attack WOC for pointing out it’s happening

why are most of the people who told me go along to get along in the same professional spaces in terms of career activism
AS I AM
Even though the made the concessions

fuckyeahfeminists:
The more I read about college grad unemployment, the more anxious I get - especially since prospects are more bleak for people of colour like me.
About 1.5 million, or 53.6 percent, of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in at least 11 years. In 2000, the share was at a low of 41 percent, before the dot-com...

it always pains me to see how readily queer black people support heterosexual black love. we support it wholeheartedly. why? because we know black men and black women have an embitterment that needs to be healed, and seeing black men and black women in healthy, loving relationships gives us feels. but black queer love is forever trampled upon. we’re treated as total embarrassments...

ugh i know it’s been discussed to death and i’m even annoying myself, but i don’t see how having racially diverse characters in a show is any more “forced” than having a white only cast
ppl are really doing a good job of showing the world that they see white as the default

white supremacy plus anti-blackness has forced black people to overcompensate in unimaginable ways.
zorascreation:
but even with stroking our own blackamericana ego, that can be dangerous because it feeds into the “good black | bad black” ego… and we all know that white supremacy says “bad blacks” are synonymous with blackness as a whole.

black americans are lazy
zorascreation:
i don’t really know too much about all this “lazy” business and where it comes from… but it smells of bullshit, ‘cause every black american i know is some kind of entrepreneur. or is working and/or seeking work. the majority of the black professionals i’ve known have been black americans, but you wouldn’t know this because white supremacy forces differing groups of black people to...
